I got lot done today.. volunteering, shopping, cleaning... Thank you Lord for the checked items on my to-do list :) ... I went on my usual grocery trip today evening with a short stop at another store close by. As I was getting into my car, a lady walks up to me telling me that she wants to ask me for something.. She seemed like someone who needed help. I was bit scared and wondering should I talk to her or not or do I just drive away ?
She started sharing her story of how she ended up in Houston and being homeless and needed some food to eat as she cannot make it to Start of Hope for dinner time. I had only 5$ in cash on me and offered to help but she wanted some food to eat... I still gave her the 5$ and told her to buy some food and she started crying thanking me for the money.
I started on my way back home and kept thinking about this person, maybe I should have just got her some food to eat... I don't know her circumstances, I don't even know if she was telling he truth. But, something in me kept prompting that I should get her some food. I stopped by subway, got a sandwich and drove back searching for her. Praise God I found her walking around that area. I stopped next to her and gave her the sandwich... which made her happy and probably fed her today.
Well, I am happy that the Lord allowed me to help this lady today. We do not know what's going in the other person's life by just looking at them ... I guess sometimes its ok to stop and listen to them and seek the Lord's wisdom to help them. I visited Start of Hope for the first time ever last year to volunteer for lunch. When it was time for lunch, you see this long line even before the counter opens... from an elderly person to a year old baby, families many homeless, some with no job but need to feed a family... each one with a story which we miss out sometimes with our own life.
We can seek our Lord to give us his eyes so we can see and love just like he did... and not miss out on an opportunity to serve...
